Valley of Flowers & Hemkund Sahib

About this trek

If you come looking for heaven, to Sri Hemkund Sahib, you will certainly get a glimpse of heaven here but you will not find words to describe the divine theatre as it just holds you spell bound. The cool air will touch the mind and soul and carry the thoughts back to the time when Guru Govind Singh meditated here in his previous life.

And if you are looking for a fairy land, come to the next door Valley of Flowers, which before its discovery was an exclusive home for the fairies. During the rains the entire area from the Valley to the sacred lake is bedecked with flowers and the air is permeated with divine fragrance. Sri Hemkund Sahib and The Valley of Flowers are inseparable parts of that sacred domain where the Guru meditated on the shores of Hemkund lake.

The entire valley from Govindghat to Sri Hemkund Sahib and The Valley of Flowers is a unique chapter in our eco-system — a heritage we must preserve for posterity.

Why book the Group Departure?

The group departure is our most popular and best-value way to trek the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. You join a fixed-date batch of no more than twelve trekkers, led by a certified Garhwali guide who has walked this trail for years.

It suits solo travellers, couples and small groups of friends who are happy to share the trail with a few like-minded people. Half the joy of this trek is the company — evenings in Ghangaria over hot chai, comparing photos of blue poppies and Brahma Kamal.

Because the logistics are shared across the batch, you get the lowest per-person price without cutting a single corner on stays, meals, permits or safety cover.

  • Fixed 2026 departure dates
  • Maximum 12 trekkers per batch
  • Lowest per-person cost
  • Ideal for solo travellers & couples
  • Shared transport from Joshimath

Day-by-Day Itinerary & Trek Distances (km)

1
Arrival at Joshimath / Govindghat
Arrive at Govindghat or Joshimath in the evening and check in for an overnight stay with dinner. Govindghat is the primary base station for both Hemkund Sahib and the Valley of Flowers, set at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Laxman Ganga. Its old local name was Semtwe Dang — 'a place of huge boulders' — and after the discovery of Shri Hemkund Sahib in 1935 it came to be known as Govindghat.

Govindghat to Ghangaria
Meet your trek guide and representative at Govindghat, the starting point of the trek. A short 3 km drive to Pulna is followed by a 10 km trek to Ghangaria, the base village for day walks into the Valley of Flowers. On arrival, check in at the hotel or camp for an overnight stay in Ghangaria.

Trek to the Valley of Flowers
After breakfast, begin the 4 km climb from Ghangaria to the Valley of Flowers (Nandan Kanan). Walk uphill towards Hemkund Sahib and cross the bridge over the Laxman Ganga, where the path forks — right to Hemkund, left to the valley. Register at the forest check post and pay the nominal entry fee. A final gentle kilometre opens into a magical world of over 500 species — Brahma Kamal, Fane Kamal, geranium, marsh marigold, asters, lilium, corydalis, rhododendrons and many more. After a few hours among the blooms, descend to Ghangaria by 4 PM for dinner and an overnight stay. (No mules are allowed on the path into the valley.)
